Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) is crucial for individuals deployed in risk-associated, precarious or volatile environments. HEAT aims to improve participants’ comprehension of the challenging field requirements within the context of an international organisation or institution as well as businesses and major corporations. During the 5 day residential course, HEAT will equip individuals operating in risk theatres with essential tools on how to manage and reduce the risks, which in some cases may be lifesaving.

Why is HEAT necessary?

Over the past few decades, there has been a significant increase in the number of security incidents involving and targeting aid workers and journalists.

Violent crime, illegal checkpoints, natural disasters, violent demonstrations and abductions. Humanitarian workers and non-governmental organizations as well as journalists and media workers operate in the most dangerous and challenging conditions and are continuously exposed to life-threatening situations.

Preparation, Preparedness  and Training are paramount for deployments to fragile and hostile regions. Our robust and well-thought out Hostile Environment Awareness Training programme will improve your knowledge and abilities to work safely in hostile and complex environments.

BLUESPEAR HEAT Methodology

The Advanced BLUESPEAR HEAT programme is five (5) days, from Monday to Friday and is developed in line with the EU ENTRI guidelines to ensure the highest standards. The course is delivered through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions.

Our bespoke HEAT for Journalists comprises three (3) days and is designed to prepare journalists for the most challenging regions and focuses on the main threats and risks that journalists may encounter during their assignment in conflict zones.
